The day we found out

Ok, ok, ok. Several of you have been after me for months to blog information about all this craziness. I suppose the first thing I should do, is document the day we found out. It was pretty cool.

After years of infertility, dealing with hormones, shots, IUIs, and IVFs, September 11 turned out to be the biggest shock of my life. We had just had a failed IVF in July. I went to the doctor to figure out the next step. To double check, the nurse did an ultrasound to make sure that everything was ok before proceeding with the next fertility treatment. "Well, let's take a look at that uterus and see what is going on . . .or . . .we can look at your baby with a heartbeat." I said, so poetically, "Huh?", certain I had heard her wrong or she was confused. "Right there, that is your baby. There's a heartbeat". I stared. I stared some more. Again, she must be confused. When she realize that there was no way I was going to believe her, she said, "Honey, that is your uterus we are looking at, not mine." It was still several minutes before I could get my arms what was happening. I called Jason and asked him if he could come to the office. He was just leaving for work so it didn't take him long. He asked if I was ok, and I just told him that were some next steps we needed to discuss. The girls in the office were great. They watched for him to pull up and yelled, "He's coming!" They brought him back to the room and he asked what was going on. I just pointed to the screen and said, "That's our baby's heartbeat". He had the same look on his face - total disbelief. He just stared and stared, looking for some explanation where there wasn't one. That was a really good day.

I have heard that story several times and I have retold it myself...but that really was the best day ever, and I have tears in my eyes reading it again!
